Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers AS
Providing CO2 transportation and storage solutions
Marine transportation and storage of captured CO2, enabling offshore loading and offloading to permanent sequestration.
Itās time to turn the tide.
KNCC (Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers) is a joint venture company established by the Knutsen Group and the NYK Group. Drawing on our ownersā extensive experience from marine transportation of oil, chemicals and natural gas, including advanced offshore operations in combination with our game changing LCO2-EP technology, KNCC aims to play an essential role in meeting UN's climate goals.
Press release
Chiyoda Corporation (āChiyodaā), Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (āNYK Lineā), and its affiliate Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers AS (āKNCCā) are pleased to announce that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on global projects in the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS).
LCO2-EP technology - flexible and cost effective
KNCC's LCO2-EP technology, developed for marine transportation and storage of liquified CO2 at ambient temparatures, offers shippers both flexible and cost effective solutions, whether the transportation requirement is from shore to sea or from offshore installations. Transporting CO2 at ambient temperatures reduces the need for compression and heating which are required for cryogenic and low temperature solutions for offshore discharge.
The technology is based on Knutsenās PNG technology developed more than 20 years ago. This LCO2-EP containment system is scalable and can carry large volumes in one vessel.
Integral part of the CCUS value chain
KNCC offers the final step in the value chain of CO2 capture: utilization and storage (CCUS) by marine transportation of the CO2. The definite need for cost effective and reliable CO2 carriers is apparent, and the demand for such carriers in a wide range of sizes will grow rapidly.
